About the Author

Davis Chapman first began programming computers while working on his Masters Degree in Music Composition. Since that time, Davis has focused on the art of software design and development, with a strong emphasis on the practical application of Client/Server and Web/Internet technologies. Davis was the lead author for Building Secure Applications with Visual Basic, Sams Teach Yourself Visual C++ 6 in 21 Days, Web Development with Visual Basic 5 and Building Internet Applications with Delphi 2. Davis was also a contributing author on MFC Programming with Visual C++ 6 Unleashed, Special Edition Using Active Server Pages, and Running a Perfect Web Site, Second Edition. The First Impression.

For $30, it is almost alright. I would have given it four stars had the paper been not too thin - it's so thin that the text on the next page continues to hinder with your reading - and had the quality of images been slightly better. What must be added is that it is not an utter disappointment in terms of print quality and layout.

I would add to this once I have gone through the material, but as that is going to take time because of current undertakings, hence, for the time being then, just the first impressions.

Re-hash of VC++ 6 version

IT appears that the they just updated the prior version of this book, which was not great either. The same useless "scribble" program raises it's head again, something that very few of us will ever need to develop for our work. Then you get to the database section and they use ADO. It seems useless to use ADO in the C++ world, clearly if you are using C++ it is assumed you are going for performance and would use OLEDB directly, not adding the extra layer of ADO with all of its variant data types being passed around.

I am just a college student and have no experience on Windows program before, but I only know C++. If you are just like me, starting VC with this book will make your life much easier. If you are a professional, use something more advance. This is book is just for beginner with C++ background. If you don't know about C++, don't use it because it won't teach you C++ on this book.

Only read the first two books so far and hope the second two are as good.
I'm a big fan of Laurann and this story about Coto was shorter than I would have liked but I still enjoyed it and want to know what happens next. The characters were hot and the banter at times funny, she's one tough little cookie.
Second book was apparently a sequel to a book I hadn't read so I had to read between the lines working out why it felt like it had started in the middle. I did have tears when the character I liked died, though the rest with the leading female and her bond with the two doctors seemed a little rushed. That's what happens in a short story I guess, though I still enjoyed it.

I read Coto's Captive and No Escape by Tara Nina, both my favorite authors (as is Jaid Black, who also wrote one in this anthology)...I was hoping it would turn into a series, it left on a cliffhanger. Both were good.

Weak 3 stars. Four short stories. Two are incomplete.

The following two stories bothered me. I feel like I’m wasting my time when I read a portion of a story. Both of these were like a small piece (or maybe half) of a long story.

NO WAY OUT: KARI by Jaid Black.
In fairness the book description said that Kari’s story will be continued in future books. But that doesn’t help my unsatisfied feeling of seeing a couple meet and wondering how and when they might be together again. I’ve read all the Trek books and vaguely recall Kari being introduced in a previous book. I would much prefer the entire Kari story in one complete book, not turned into partial stories and spread out over three or more books. I love JB’s writing, but I don’t like this incompleteness.

ESCAPE by Tara Nina.
This was pretty good until the end. Good guys are fleeing from bad guys and the story stops. It’s the middle of the story. The romance was pretty good. At first the man and woman are enemies. Some hot sex follows.

It was enjoyable with a nice and sweet ending.

Weak 3 stars to BRIDAL BONDS by Leora Gonzales.
This was ok, but I felt it needed more character development and more relationship development. I wasn’t drawn in enough.

Great for intermediate beginners

Great song book. That said it's only really good for beginners with an instructor. This does have easy to read tabs and chords, but no real notes on strumming or picking patterns that were easy to understand. With out some knowledge of notation (There are some very bare notations) an absolute beginner will struggle to play the songs as they should sound.
That said I gave it 5 stars because it is really a jumbo book of 245 songs. Most of the songs are short enough to fit on one to two pages which makes it great to just open and play without worrying about flipping pages mid tune.

About the Author

Joseph A. DeVito received a BA from Hunter College in 1960 (with a major in speech and a minor in Spanish), an MA from Temple University in 1962 (with a major in speech along with some sociology), and a PhD from the University of Illinois in 1964 (with a major in speech and a minor in linguistics). After receiving his PhD, DeVito returned to his alma mater, Hunter College-in-the-Bronx [which later became Lehman College], to teach. Later, he moved to Queens College and then to Hunter (from which he retired from full-time teaching)–all within the City University of New York. During his teaching career, DeVito taught a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate courses, with a concentration on the undergraduate level and mainly on the introductory courses.

At various times, DeVito has served on the editorial boards of Quarterly Journal of Speech, Communication Monographs, Communication Education, Communication Quarterly, Journal of Communication, and Etc: A Review of General Semantics. He has also served as consulting editor to publishers: Random House, Harper & Row, Waveland Press, and HarperCollins. He also served as ETS coordinator of the committee to construct the DANTES Public Speaking Test for the Educational Testing Service. A prolific author, DeVito has written or edited more than 20 books in the field of communication, including The Interpersonal Communication Book, Human Communication: The Basic Course, and Essentials of Human Communication, all published by Pearson.
